Sanjesh museum is one of the interesting museums in Tabriz city. In fact, this museum is the first and only specialized measuring museum in Iran, where most measuring instruments are displayed.
Sanjesh museum is located in one of the beautiful and old houses of the city; its building dates back to the Qajar period. The house was the personal home of Mr. Salmasi and was made in 1874. After his death in 1995, the house was purchased by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization from Salmasi family for the purpose of protection. After 6 years of repairment and reconstruction of the building, it became the Sanjesh museum in 2002.
The old building of Salmasi was built on two floors on three sides of the west (for spring), east (autumn) and north (winter). The ground floor includes time measuring instruments. The second hall of the ground floor consists of telescopes and boards containing scientific and historical information related to measuring instruments in the past century. The next three halls display clocks that were made in Germany, France or Switzerland and date back 100 to 400 years. The weighing Instruments and some jobs such as Grocery, Mercery and a job named Alafi in Persian which sells wheat, barley and charcoal and the measurement tools used in these jobs exhibit in the halls of the basement. The second part of the museum (western or spring part of the building) is intended to display specialized meteorological and geological tools.
