Mirza Muhammad Ali Saib Tabrizi was the most famous sonneteer of eleventh century and the most famous poet in safavid period. He was born in Tabriz in the year 1000 AH. His father was a reliable businessman, His family was one of a thousand families who had migrated from Tabriz to Isfahan with direct order of Abbas I of Persia. Shah Abbas II, the emperor of Persia, bestowed upon him the title King of Poets.
Works of Saib Tabrizi, except three or four thousand bits of Ode, one short and incomplete Masnavi named Qandahār-nāma and two or three qit’as, all of them are Ghazal. Besides writing in Persian, Saib was known to 17 Azeri ghazals. The style that Saeb completed, after a century was called “Indian style”.
Saib Tabrizi died in the year 1080 AH and buried next to Zayanderud River in Isfahan.
