Mehdi Bakeri

Mehdi Bakeri was an Iranian war hero in the Iran–Iraq War. He was born in 1954 in Miandoab, West Azerbaijan Province in a religious Iranian Azerbaijani family. He was graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tabriz.

During the Iranian revolution of 1979, Mehdi Bakeri joined the revolutionaries. After the beginning of the Iraqi imposed war against Iran, he joined to the Sepah. He was one of the best commanders of the Army in the 8-year Iran-Iraq war and the commander of the Ashura Corps, unit 31.

Mehdi Bakeri served as mayor for nine months and later as the public prosecutor of Urmia, West Azerbaijan. He was martyred during the Badr operation and in the forefront of the battle on Arvand River.
