Tabriz Municipality Museum, the first and only Municipality Museum in Iran

The Municipality Museum is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Tabriz that is located at the center of the city and the municipality square known as the Sa’at square.

The City Museum of Tabriz was established in 2007, contemporaneous with the centennial of the establishment of first Iranian Municipality of Iran in Tabriz. The museum was established at 800 square meters in the basement floor of the Tabriz Municipality Palace. The city Museum of Tabriz is not only known as the first and only Municipality Museum in Iran but also one of the first Municipality Museums of the world after China. At the Museum, You will see the old objects and documents related to the municipality of Tabriz, administrative and financial documents, Tabriz Municipality Championship cups, Manuscript Books and art works, gifts of mayors of Tabriz, travelogues about Tabriz, porcelain, equipment and documents of Tabriz.

There is also the weapon of Ghassem Khan Vali (the first mayor of Tabriz), the first fire-fighting pump of Yangin Tower, the equipment used by mayors at different times, photos of old buildings of Tabriz, photos of Iranian constitutional commanders, the first Gas lighting working with oil and was used on public passages, the first correspondences of mayors and many other objects.

Carpet Hall

Carpet hall is the most magnificent hall in the museum. It has carpets dating back to 110 years ago that fascinate every visitor. The largest Iranian carpet (woven in 1941) has been exhibited in this hall. There are twelve exquisite carpet in this hall that have been woven from the time of the foundation of Tabriz Municipality Palace until 1941 under the command of Arfa’ al-Molk Jalili (founder of the Tabriz Municipality of Tabriz).

Camera Hall

There are photographic equipment and cameras dating back to 150 years before launching the modern digital photography cameras to market. They are have been collected by Ostad Jadid al-Islam.

Sound Hall

In this hall, you can see national, native and classic instruments including Persian Tar, Setar, Azerbaijani Tar, Balaban, Ghopoz, Bagpipes, Dutar of south and Khorasan. There are also kinds of bells and door knockers from Safavi and Qajar Periods, ritual and religious instruments, projector, old radio, telephone and school bell of the last century and other sound equipment. This spectacular collection belongs to Mr. Hossein Sajedi.

Mayor Hall

This hall includes old photos of Tabriz, historic documents, dishes of the mayor, municipality property and the safekeeper of Ghassem Khan Vali, mayor of the Tabriz in 1907.

Martyr Hall

Photos and documents of the brave resistance of Azerbaijan and Tabriz people during the 8 years of Holy Defense in Iran against Iraq is in this gallery. In this Hall you can also see the photos of martyr Mehdi Bakeri, who defended his country bravely. In the Tabriz Municipality Palace, you can see the first taxi and the first fire engine of Tabriz.

Shoe Museum

The shoe industry in Tabriz has a long history and the quality and beauty of Tabriz leather shoes is known in the world. For this reason, a hall in the basement of Tabriz Municipality Palace has been dedicated to displaying shoes from different times and tribes, as well as shoemaking equipment.

Fire Fight Hall

The importance of emergency relief in Tabriz is determined by visiting the Fire Fight Hall. When there was firefighting and emergency equipment in this city, there was still no municipality in other cities. This historical document shows that the urban management and emergency relief have been systematic in Tabriz in the long run.

Asma Behtash

I’m Asma Behtash, the chairwoman of the board of Binesh Faragir Ark Safar Company. I have a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management and a Master’s degree in Ecotourism at University of Tabriz. From my early years at the university, I became interested in tourism and decided to work in this topic in addition to studying. So, I began to produce tourism content for the tourism publication of Safarnameh Ark. Also I worked alongside my talented teammates on the Journal of Kuleposhti, the Quarterly of the Geography and Tourism Academic Society at University of Tabriz, as an editor. Since 2014, our business has been launched under the name of Arktourism, a website dedicated to the production of specialized tourism content. I am interested in cultural topics and write about the culture of Tabriz in the Arktourism website. I am fluent in Persian, English and Turkish. Tour guiding and performing events are among my favorite activities. Since 2017, I have also been working on the project of One Minute With Tabriz, a project to produce video content for the beautiful city of Tabriz.
