Palace Museum of East Azerbaijan Ostandari

The Palace Museum of East Azerbaijan Ostandari is the main political center of the province. The building of this palace was known as Ali Qapu and Darbe Ali (the Great Door) in the Zandieh and Qajar periods. Ostandari means the Provincial Government. After the Constitutional Revolution and the collapse of Qajar dynasty, the building became the settlement place of the warden of Azerbaijan. In 1934, the building was burnt down and most old parts of the Zandieh and Qajar era were destroyed. During the first Pahlavi period, other parts of the monument were destroyed by the great flood of Tabriz. Today the Ostandari Palace has remained at the Shohada Square in the center of Tabriz city. The museum has numerous halls, which include photos of the wardens of Azerbaijan, gifts received by the four governors of East Azerbaijan and their photos.

The building has two ceremonial halls and several meeting rooms which are unmatched in terms of variety and architecture, and the largest meeting hall known as Round Hall has one of the most beautiful architectural works.

Exquisite handmade carpets, in terms of area, special coloring and picturesque design in the various halls of the Palace Museum of East Azerbaijan Ostandari, represent the great native art of Azerbaijan and attract every viewer.

Although the objects in this museum don’t have historical value but the valuable treasures of this museum introduce the enthusiasts and tourists with the wardens of the region and the political centers of the province. Visiting this museum is only possible during the days of Nowruz and holidays for tourists.
