The Museum of History and Culture of the University of Tabriz

The city of Tabriz, in addition to the honorable title of the city of firsts, is also known as the city of museums. The Azerbaijan Museum is the second museum of Iran and located at the center of Tabriz City but in 1950, a museum was established at the faculty of literature of the University of Tabriz on the Artesh Street. The theme of the museum was archeology and anthropology, so it could be considered as the second museum of Iran. The objects in the museum were the ones discovered in archaeological excavations and the objects have been donated by the Cultural Heritage Organization and cultural charities.

The archeological section of the Museum of History and Culture of the University of Tabriz includes prehistory, ancient Iran and Islamic historical periods of Iran and a part of the museum is dedicated to seals and coins. The part of anthropology also includes various objects derived from the culture of Iranian people such as old weapons, carpets, calligraphy books, lithography, and documents. The richest part of the museum is the part includes objects from the Safavid period, which consists of Chinese ceramics moved from the tomb of Sheikh Safi-ad-din Ardabili to the museum.

After the victory of the Islamic revolution of Iran and the separation of the faculty of Literature and the Humanities, the Museum of History and Culture of University of Tabriz was half-closed and after several consultations, the objects were transferred to the Central Library of the University of Tabriz and the Museum of History and Culture of University of Tabriz was reopened. Currently, the museum is run by the Institute of History and Culture of Iran at the University of Tabriz and has several halls. The museum display cases have also been rebuilt and renovated. Currently, there are two other museums with the names of the Museum of 27 Dey Martyrs and the Museum of Natural history at the University of Tabriz.

Asma Behtash

I’m Asma Behtash, the chairwoman of the board of Binesh Faragir Ark Safar Company. I have a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management and a Master’s degree in Ecotourism at University of Tabriz. From my early years at the university, I became interested in tourism and decided to work in this topic in addition to studying. Also I worked alongside my talented teammates on the Journal of Kuleposhti, the Quarterly of the Geography and Tourism Academic Society at University of Tabriz, as an editor. Since 2014, our business has been launched under the name of Arktourism, a website dedicated to the production of specialized tourism content. I am interested in cultural topics and write about the culture of Tabriz in the Arktourism website. I am fluent in Persian, English and Turkish. Tour guiding and performing events are among my favorite activities. Since 2017, I have also been working on the project of One Minute With Tabriz, a project to produce video content for the beautiful city of Tabriz.
